During this meeting, he gave a short presentation to introduce MUSCADE to all attendees, and outline its objectives in detail. This brief presentation was well received by the audience, as it provided the opportunity to clearly identify the project objectives. On 4th February, four clusters also met in parallel: User Centric Media, Media Delivery Platforms, A/V search and 3D Media. Guillaume Berenger also attended the cluster meeting on 3D media where 3D-related project representatives have reported about work undertaken in their projects.

MUSCADE was represented at CeBIT 2010 event by Fraunhofer HHI and KUK Filmproduktion, which took place in Hannover, Germany on March 2-6, 2010. At the Fraunhofer's CeBIT Booth in Hall 9, Booth B36, researchers presented technologies and standards for 3D cinema and 3D television. As a special bonus, the transmitting of the Fraunhofer press conference was performed live in 3D, directly from the booth.

During this event, MUSCADE partner KUK Film produced a 3D live show at the SONY pavilion, which was fully equipped with high-end 3D equipment by SONY. The KUK team operated two 3D systems (equipment support: Presteigne Charter), and was responsible for perfect real-time 3D alignment in the control room. Josef Kluger of KUK Film directed three music performances per day and the 3D Laboratory show that demonstrated the basic principles of 3D to the audience.

Dr. Anil Fernando of University of Surrey represented MUSCADE at the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME 2011) in Barcelona, Spain on 11-15 July 2011. IEEE ICME has been the flagship multimedia conference sponsored by four IEEE societies since 2000. It serves as a forum to promote the exchange of the latest advances in multimedia technologies, systems, and applications from both the research and development perspectives of the circuits and systems, communications, computer, and signal processing communities and attracts more than 1,000 delegates all around the world. Dr. Fernando was invited to deliver a tutorial on “Quality of Experience (QoE) in Multimedia Communications”. All of the aforementioned work reported in the tutorial was resulted from the University of Surrey’s contributions to the MUSCADE project.

Frederik Zilly of Fraunhofer In-stitute for Telecommunications, Berlin, Germany delivered a talk about MVD4 generation in the context of the MUSCADE project.His talk entitled “Depth-based Content Creation for Auto-Stereoscopic Displays using Mul-ti-Camera Rigs” was delivered during the session “3D range cameras and their applications”. In his talk, he detailed the MUS-CADE Multi-Camera rig, Multi-Camera-assistance system, MVD4 depth estimation and MVD4 virtual view generation (Depth Image Based Rendering).

MUSCADE researcher Hans Hoffmann of EBU organised a NAB/SMPTE session on "3D 10 Years Hence: 20/20 in 2020?" during the NAB 2010 Digital Cinema Summit. Tibor Balogh of Holografika and Aljoscha Smolic of Disney Research Zurich were among the speakers. The session looked at questions such as: "What does the time-line look like for the migration from special purpose glasses to inexpensive (almost disposable) glasses to glassless technologies? What technical or standards barriers need to be overcome to ensure consumer acceptance and the start of significant sales?" The event let us introduce our results to US professionals, who were also interested in our plans and ongoing work in MUSCADE that go far beyond the state of the art in 3D capture, transmission and display.
